Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight at home defeat of 2025.
But the primary talking point was Fulham's next score when the keeper lost the ball far beyond his box.
He came out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.
But, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions really angered Frank.
"I heard some of our fans apparently booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs supporters that do that. Alright jeering following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role the keeper is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated following the game that he had to take the criticism.
"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on us to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to accept."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next longest-range top division goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open net to target.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds after the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.
"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them defended the goal, my interest lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a little additional time. Then it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and place it towards goal. I felt a good sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.
The match was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against Frank's former club Brentford and champions the Reds to come before the end of the year.
Just a single of those victories have come after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to work against you as well – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Every game has a single story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."
Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on file in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile job at a major team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
