The platform is rolling out a new feature that permits them to lessen the amount of AI-made content appearing in their timelines. This step comes as the company disclosed that it currently hosts more than 1 bn AI videos.
Testing and Rollout
This change is undergoing trials over the following weeks before a global release. This shift aligns with a rise in content created by AI, spurred by emerging content generation software.
AI Content on Other Platforms
Recent reports that nearly a tenth of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a competing service exclusively feature content made by AI. A large amount of this content is deemed low-quality AI content, a phrase for poor-quality, bulk-generated content that is frequently absurd or dreamlike.
“We know from our community that numerous viewers enjoy content created using AI tools, including digital art to educational videos, and we want to give people the ability to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own choices,” commented a company executive.
Volume and Proportions
The platform announced that there are currently 1.3bn videos on its network tagged as AI-generated. In total, more than 100 m videos are uploaded to the platform daily, making AI content a limited part of its total content library.
Customizing Your Feed
Viewers will be able to reduce or increase the level of artificial media they see by opening the content preference setting in the app and picking AI-made media. Other topics that currently be adjusted under the setting include politics, style, aesthetics, and movement.
Platform Guidelines
Its rules require users to label lifelike artificially created content, and it forbids malicious deepfakes of celebrities or emergencies. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is not labeled can be deleted under its terms of service.
Furthermore, the platform will from now on attach an “AI-made” watermark to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an cross-platform project for spotting content made by AI. This measure is designed to deter users from trying to bypass the labeling process.
Responsible AI Funding
TikTok is also launching a $2m AI literacy fund for experts and groups to create informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will assist educational bodies focused on teaching programming and robotics.
Moderation Strategy
The platform has justified its safety measures, following debate over plans to make redundant numerous content moderators in Britain. The company is set to eliminate a significant number of roles in its user protection department in the UK capital, with worker representatives and online safety experts raising concerns that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.
A senior executive explained that people-led review would continue to be important, but automated tools can shield workers by removing the most harmful content prior to it gets reviewed by humans. The company stated a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content handled by content reviewers over the previous year due to intervention by its automated systems.
We believe it is crucial to integrate people and machines to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s very important to minimize viewing of unsafe media as swiftly, which is where a lot of the machine support is really helping us process content quickly.”
