The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians featured on Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the industry. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The song showcases a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the area was characterized as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching this Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a digital service from later in the month.
