The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
