Supporters Urge Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are calling for that a individual who jumped a barricade and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains videos of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Well-being
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for online networks to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-part adaptation of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, winning two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
