Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with results like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
