New England Match Longest Victory Run From Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores during the current campaign
New England equaled their longest winning run since the Brady era as they defeated division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph bolsters the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The Jets had taken the lead at their home field with QB Fields running in a short rushing score to finish the New York's first possession
But the New England fought back in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback commented on Henderson. "He aims to be great."
Fields connected with John Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two field goals in the final period as the home side closed out the victory
