Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

It said missile fragments fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
