Indian Skipper: Kaur
Harmanpreet, whose expressions convey countless tales, wept as India beat Australia. She was more composed that night.
“In my view the key factor is that we need to relish this as there is nothing bigger than this for us as athletes and as a captain. Therefore our aim is to enjoy this moment and keep taking manageable objectives which we have to achieve collectively rather than thinking larger goals because you can achieve significant milestones by accomplishing the manageable steps.”
“As a player, these instances are crucial. To defeat an opponent like the Aussies, a major force and historically excelled in global tournaments. It’s not an easy thing to play and be mentally strong in front of them. However, I believe clearing that barrier was truly remarkable to all of us. I frequently remind our players that it’s unnecessary to suppress feelings. If tears come, let it out. Meanwhile, just keep enjoying. I think there’s no greater accomplishment or moment for us. The final is a unique occasion and we’ll proceed with the same mindset.”
Proteas Skipper: Wolvaardt
And some soft snow calm from Laura Wolvaardt.
“Head coach Mandla, South Africa head coach], normally does the motivating talks, the ‘representing your nation’ kind of speech. And then I think I’d contribute with a little ‘stay calm, girls’ at the end. We’ll experience a lot of noise, many events unfolding, perhaps many different routines compared to normal during regular matches. However, ultimately, we’re going to have to perform basics throughout the match, and maintain composure throughout. I think merely enduring and staying calm is going to go greatly during the match.”
“I’m attempting to avoid thinking too much about the future; just really sort of slow it down. In my opinion the debut you play in championships, it feels like a really big, fast-paced event. We’re going to need to decelerate and breathe deeply, and hope we can to achieve that collectively.”
