Following multiple episodes of tension, plots and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals key moments from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that cut through the overwhelming tension.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
From 19 contestants, only five remained: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a surprising result that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated another, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him maintaining a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up why no one had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you vote for a person so loveable?" asked another celebrity.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would work again!"
Thursday evening's episode was extended to over an hour on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began the competition as something of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've murdered beloved figures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I thought."
Meanwhile, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with England", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, replacing the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Next up was the challenge, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - of course - The Traitors Express.
This task involved ripping up portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise beforehand, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated one, while their partner just giggled.
And one adhered to their agreement. Yet, having slipped under the radar for most of the game, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote a different viewer.
But there was little opportunity to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the endgame - which was what we were really all here for.
The final four gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - which meant that the deceiver was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be a contender for memorable moment at next year's awards," they commented.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, plotting and sometimes unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. It will be remembered fondly.
