Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant Control Tower IT Issue
Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant ATC system failure halted all operations.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.
Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the full ground stop to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.
Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the terminal as backlogs are worked through.
