Ex- FBI Head James Comey Submits Denial Plea to Allegations of Misleading US Legislators
Ex- FBI chief James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to making false statements to congressional representatives and hindering a lawmaking procedure.
His lawyer entered the answer acting as his counsel in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.
His attorney announced he would attempt to have the legal matter terminated for multiple causes including that his client, a critic of President Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.
Mr Comey was indicted soon after Trump pushed his top legal official to proceed against him.
Legal Proceedings
During the hearing on Wednesday, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald told the magistrate they intended to file multiple legal requests to terminate the legal matter before a legal hearing, arguing the prosecution was spiteful and that a government lawyer was improperly assigned to assume control of the case.
The former director's proceedings was initially handled by Erik Siebert, who left his position under influence from Trump after his examination into another opponent - New York Attorney General Letitia James - was unable to file indictments.
Courtroom Atmosphere
The former director seemed in optimistic frame of mind as he came into the legal venue on mid-week, speaking with his legal team and making jokes. He was joined by his spouse, Mrs Failor and daughter his daughter, a government attorney who the former government dismissed.
Following the reading to the court read his constitutional guarantees and the two counts against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, James Comey was questioned if he comprehended the accusations.
"Absolutely your honour. Thank you very much," he informed the court.
Previous Events
The former director was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from four years and was dismissed about several months into Trump's first term as commander-in-chief. At the period, Mr Comey was overseeing an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any connections between Moscow and the election effort.
While in office, the director caused a counter-response from Democrats when he stated just immediately preceding the 2016 election that he was investigating presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Via social media Mr Comey posted to his social media after he was charged, he stated he was not guilty and charged Trump of behaving like a "dictator".
"My family and I have known for a long time that there are ramifications to challenging Mr Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our knees."
"I am not guilty," he added. "Thus initiate a trial."
These allegations against the former director emerged after Trump shared on online platforms insisting on his top legal official, Ms Bondi, prosecute James Comey and additional individuals.
