Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
